National Parks

By setting up 14 National Parks Honduras offers the opportunity to keep intact one of the most valuable tracts of primary tropical rainforest left in Central America. As a result of their accomplishments, many species of endangered plants and animals can still be found in their natural habitat. Some of these include manaties, parrots, tucans, trogons, jaguars, crocodiles, white faced and howler monkeys.
With more than 700 species of birds Honduras represents a wide spectrum of Central America's avifauna. Honduras has also established protection of the high altitude cloudforest - home of the most popular bird, the Resplendent Quetzal.

The primary rainforest treasure runs along the caribbean coast starting in Tela with its abundant wildlife in the mangrove jungle of the National Park Punta Sal. Birdwatchers will be delighted to spot such a variety of different species.

The Cloudforest of the National Park Pico Bonito near La Ceiba with its numerous waterfalls and canyons offers the visitor another insight of the biological diversity of the country. One of the largest and most important protection zone of the manaties can be seen at the Cuero y Salado wildlife Refuge.

The recently established National Nark Capiro y Calentura in Trujillo has a stable bird population, including the trogoon and toucan, and is well known for the abundance of howler monkeys.

Many of the endangered species are often found within easy reach of established trails and reserves. Visit the biological wealth of Honduras which has become the main tourist attraction in the last years. With our experienced guidance your vacation will be an unforgettable experience.
